1：己を知れ。スタイルはお金で買える物ではなく、既に自分自身の中に存在するもの。自分のキャラクターや体型、ライフスタイルを分析し、自分らしくあることが大切だ。最もありがちな失敗は、自分らしさに背き、パーソナリティーと合わない服を着ること。私自身はほとんどネクタイは締めないし、いつもだらしなく伸びたヘアスタイルだ。だけど、それが自分のキャラクターと完璧に合っているから、それで大丈夫なんだ。
2：自分にフィットするものを見つけろ。自分の体型をよくみせてくれるカッティングのものを選べ。背が低いひとやがっちりした体型のひとは、ダブルブレストのジャケットを買ってはいけない。さらに背や体型が強調されてしまうから。その代わりに、より深いノッチラペルのものを選べば、ジャケット全体が細長くみえる。
3：ピンクを着よう。ピンクのシャツを恐れてはいけない。男性はフェミニンすぎると懸念するけども、女性はピンクを好むもの。血色をよく見せてくれるピンクは青白いイギリス人の肌に最も似合う色のひとつだ。日焼けした肌の場合は、海のようなブルーのミッドトーンが似たような効果を演出してくれる。
4：礼節が人を作る。「着こなしの良さ」は、何を着ているかというよりも、個人の振る舞いやマナー、姿勢によって生まれるもの。テーラードスーツやハンドメイドのシューズは美しい。けれども、真の着こなしには、そのアイテムに加え、礼儀や立派なマナー、会話のタイミングを理解しているかということが重要になってくるのだ。
